The Adjara Museum named after Khariton Akhvlediani was founded in 1908. On the initiative of a group of teachers and the leadership of public figures of Batumi as a school museum. On March 19, 1908, at the meeting held with the participation of 28 voters, the city council approved the joint conclusion of its board and the finance commission on the opening of a children's museum at the city school named after Pushkin, which was soon implemented.

More than 180,000 different types of exhibits are preserved in the museum

Also, the manuscript fund preserves more than 2,000 rare manuscripts in Georgian, Russian, Armenian, Arabic, Turkish, Persian and other languages. Khariton Akhvlediani Scientific Library was founded in 1937 and it stores 63,000 printed books and magazines in different languages, including many bibliographic rarities.
