Description

The arch bridge of Furtio was built presumably in the 9th-10th centuries. It is located 80 km from Batumi, at the entrance to the Furtio village, in the gorge of the Adzharistskali river. The length of the bridge is 35 meters. In ancient times, the bridge connected the old roads in the valley of the Skhalta river with the central road. Thus, the shortest route from the valley of the Skhalta river to the sea passed through Ardahan and Akhaltsikhe. Furtio Bridge underlines the unique professionalism of builders and engineers. In 2012, the bridge was restored. When restoring the bridge, natural stone was used and the architectural style of the original bridge was fully preserved. The bridge is in good condition and functioning today.
